Lake Hillier , Australia

Lake Hillier is a Natural Preserve located in Goldfields-Esperance, Western Australia. It is a saline lake, or a salt lake. The only living organism in Lake Hillier are microorganism including Dunaliella salina. Dunaliella salina is a type of green micro-algae, it is mostly found in salt lake fields. This algae is what gave Lake Hillier its pink color.

From above it appears to be bubble gum pink. It is about 2,000 feet long, and is surrounded by a rim of sand and trees. No one really knows why the lake is pink, scientist think that the color is comes from a dye that is produced by bacteria that lives in the sea crust. I don’t know about you, but the first thing that pops in my head when I see this pink lake is can I swim in it? Well, you can, but the lake is REALLY salty.
